The History of River Grove Guerin College Preparatory High School
 
River Grove (population 10,668) is located in far northeastern Illinois in upper western Cook County.  River Grove is a near northwestern suburb of Chicago.  The town was incorporated in 1888. The main roads leading to River Grove are Illinois Routes 64 and 171. The Soo Line Railroad runs through River Grove while the Des Plaines River flows through the west side of town. The town's official website can be viewed at http://www.villageofrivergrove.org .
   
A nice history of Guerin Prep High School was located on the school's webpage in 04/2020.
 
"Guerin College Preparatory High School sits on the campus of its founding schools, Holy Cross High School for boys and Mother Theodore Guerin High School for girls. The founding schools were opened in 1961 and 1962, respectively. The Brothers of Holy Cross and Sisters of Providence ran each school separately but with shared values and traditions.  Guerin College Preparatory High School was established as a co-educational school in 2004."
 
Like many other private high schools on this site that have closed, in spite of great traditions at both Holy Cross and Mother Guerin high schools, low enrollment and financial hardships took their toll. It was decided to close Guerin Preparatory High School upon the completion of the 2019-20 school year.
 
One unique fact about Guerin Prep High School was that the school team nicknames were kept for both girls and boys athletics when the two schools merged into one. The girls teams remained the "Gators" while the boys continued to be known as the "Crusaders."

ATHLETICS
 
Though the high schools of Mother Guerin and Holy Cross merged there was a great effort to maintain some of the traditions the two schools had individually. One was that the school team nicknames would be kept for girls and boys sports. The "Gators" (girls) and "Crusaders" (boys) had some nice successes in the 15 years Guerin Preparatory High School was active. All totaled the GPHS kids won 19 IHSA Regional Championships and 1 Sectional Championship. The school also qualified for the State Meet in Competitive Dance on 2 occasions.
